HAPPENINGS IN DECEMBER
- December is National Handwashing Awareness month - We will be working on the importance of handwashing.
- How Many Inches– , We will introduce the children to ‘measurement’ using an inch worm ruler, to make comparisons between different objects.
- Five Senses – The children work on their five senses of seeing, tasting, touching, smelling and hearing on holiday related activities.
- Fun With Math – Geometric shapes for this month include the circle and square. The children will have fun creating and eating foods made into these shapes.
- Alphabet Letters and Colors – The sounds of ‘O’ and ‘U’ will be reintroduced, using activities to reinforce these sounds. The color this month is ‘GREEN’. We‘l also review colors red, blue, black, orange, yellow and brown.
- We will focus on large motor coordination through various games and activities. Small motor activities will be addressed by playing with playdough, tracing, coloring, cutting and pasting.
- In Addition – The children will study holiday celebrations around the world. They will learn about customs and traditions from countries such as Germany, Italy, Mexico, France, Great Britain and the United States. We will make a holiday project for each country.

THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR CHILD
- Sit with your child and discuss holiday tradition and what it’s all about. Discuss your own family tradition.
- Sing a few songs together, tap your feet, snap your fingers and clap your hands to beat of music.
- Read a story of your child’s choice. At certain points, ask “What do you think happens next?” After story, “Tell me what you like most.”
PARENT TIP OF THE MONTH
Bring out the ole “Sorry” game and teach your child to play. This classic game of luck, strategy and determination is easy for children to grasp as young as 4 years old and fun for adults. A good teaching game.
